1. Iceland: Northern Lights
Northern Lights are one of the most spectacular natural phenomena you can witness on our planet. The best time to see them is during the winter months, from September to March. The best places to see them are in the northern parts of the world, such as Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Canada.
We have been in Iceland at least once per year to see the Northern Lights for the past four years. We believe Iceland is one of the best spots for seeing the lights because of its location and the fact that it is easy to find a place with low light pollution. Also, Europe and the US have accessible flights to Iceland, making it a very accessible destination.
2. Antarctica Continent: Frozen
Antarctica has been for a long time on our bucket list, and we finally managed to visit it in 2022. It is a place you didn’t think existed on this planet, and that changes you for life. Everyone should aim to visit at least once in their life to experience the vastness of the continent, the extreme weather, and the wildlife that make it a unique destination.
In addition to cruising on the white continent, you can do many other activities such as kayaking, camping, hiking, zodiac cruising, and even polar plunges. We hope to have the chance to go again in the following years and feel the quietness of Antarctica once again.
3. Tenerife: The Hiking Gem of Europe
Tenerife is this magnificent place that we hope to remain unspoiled forever. When you think about Tenerife, the first thing that comes to mind are beaches and clubs. However, Tenerife is a hiker’s paradise, with many trails that take you through the most diverse landscapes.
We have been to Tenerife twice, and we are planning to go back again. The island is so diverse that you can spend months there and still discover new places. If you are looking for some warm weather in the winter, then the winter months are the perfect time to visit Tenerife. However, if you want to hike, the best time to visit is in the spring or autumn months when the weather is better and you can explore more.
4. Cuba: A Different Life
Cuba is a country stuck in the past for many years. Because it was isolated from the rest of the world for numerous years, it has a different spirit. The country is a mix of history, culture, natural beauty, and unique experiences, making it a fascinating country to visit.
You can spend a few weeks easily in Cuba and still discover new places. From Havana, the capital of Cuba, to the stunning beaches of Varadero, the rich history of Trinidad, and the natural beauty of Vinales, Cuba has something for everyone. We like ViƱales the most because of its natural beauty and the fact that it is not as touristy as the other places. Bonus, we could bike in the countryside and explore the tobacco fields.
5. Madeira - The Hawaii of Europe
Probably one of the most underrated destinations in Europe, Madeira is a tropical paradise in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The island has a mix of stunning landscapes, levadas, small villages, banana fields, and surprisingly delicious food. You can’t go wrong by visiting it at any time of the year, as the weather is always good somewhere on the island.
We spent one month in Madeira and could have easily stayed at least one more. There are plenty of walks, hikes, and places to explore. The island is also a great place for road trips, as the roads are decent and easy drive around. You will find banana fields everywhere and small restaurants with tasty food.
6. Iceland - A Country Like no Other
Iceland is a country so astounding that it became our second home for multiple years, and it holds a special place in our hearts. It is a unique mix of volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, geysers, and black-sand beaches. It is the perfect place for nature lovers, photographers, and road-trippers.
We visited Iceland in the summer and winter, and we can’t decide which one we like more. In the summer, you can enjoy the midnight sun and the long days, while in winter time you can see the Northern Lights if you are lucky to have clear weather. Just like the weather, the landscapes can change dramatically from one hour to another. Before you go, make sure you document about your trip and that you take with you appropriate clothing.
7. Singapore - The City of The Future
Singapore is a city like no other. It is a mix of cultures, religions, and people. It is a city built from scratch and a marvel of engineering. The city’s architects had the future in mind, and many times you feel like you are in a different world.
We spent Christmas in Singapore. It was a unique experience for us - no snow, no cold, just sun, and hot humid weather. The city is neat, totally different from what you see in other neighboring countries. The food is delicious, and you can find food from all over the world from multiple Michelin-star restaurants.
